About the Artist
Alexandre Arrechea (b. 1970, Trinidad, Cuba) is a leading Cuban visual artist and former member of Los Carpinteros. His multidisciplinary, site‑specific practice—encompassing installation, sculpture, video, drawing and public engagement—examines systems of power, hierarchy, architecture, and surveillance. Iconic works include “Garden of Mistrust” (2003–05) and “Room of All” (2009), which extend Benthamite concepts of the panoptic gaze. His work has been widely exhibited in international biennials and major museums. He lives and works between Madrid and Miami.
