About the Artist
Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian (1922–2019) was a pivotal figure in modern Iranian art, internationally recognized for her mesmerizing geometric mirror mosaics. Her practice masterfully synthesized traditional Persian decorative arts, particularly the intricate mirror-work found in Iranian architecture (Aina-kari), with the minimalist and conceptual tenets of Western abstraction. Educated in Tehran and New York, she developed a singular artistic language that infused mathematical precision with spiritual depth, often referencing Sufi cosmology. Her work consistently explored light, reflection, and infinite pattern, establishing a profound dialogue between ancient heritage and contemporary innovation.
