About the Artist
Arthur Jafa (b.1960, Talladega, USA; lives NY/LA) is an acclaimed filmmaker, cinematographer, and visual artist whose films interrogate African-American identity, trauma, embodiment, and beauty. His landmark video essays—Love Is The Message, The Message Is Death (2016) and Dreams Are Colder Than Death (2018)—combine found footage, original cinematography and rhythmic editing to create potent meditations on Black self-making and media representation. Featured at Venice Biennale, MoMA, and Whitney Biennial.
