About the Gallery
Kurimanzutto, founded in 1999 by Mónica Manzutto and José Kuri with the pivotal involvement of artist Gabriel Orozco, emerged from a vision to foster contemporary art in Mexico amidst a nascent institutional landscape. Initially operating nomadically, the gallery challenged conventional exhibition models by staging shows in unconventional spaces—from a market booth for its inaugural "Market Economy" exhibition to parking lots and even an airport. This artist-centric approach prioritizes creative innovation and critical dialogue, fostering a collaborative environment among its diverse roster of Mexican and international artists. With flagship spaces in Mexico City and a significant presence in New York, Kurimanzutto remains a vital nexus for experimental projects, research, and the global promotion of contemporary artistic currents.
