About the Gallery
Gallery Maskara, established in Mumbai in 2008 by Abhay Maskara, is a distinguished contemporary art space. Housed in a meticulously restored pre-independence cotton warehouse, its 14-meter high pitched roof and 30-meter long walls provide an expansive setting for art. The gallery is renowned for its cutting-edge program, emphasizing site-specific installations and large-scale contemporary works.
With a compelling mission to exhibit and promote "art of the present," Gallery Maskara adopts a global, multidisciplinary approach, fostering critical dialogue and public engagement. It champions emerging artists, many of whom received their inaugural solo exhibitions here, subsequently achieving national and international acclaim. The curatorial vision, led by Abhay Maskara, transcends geographical boundaries, focusing on radical and excellent art that inspires and challenges. The gallery's rigorous exhibition standards aim to bridge a gap in the Indian art scene by presenting visually complex works.
