About the Gallery
Carl Freedman Gallery, founded in 2003 by curator Carl Freedman, has evolved into a significant voice in contemporary art. Initially established in London as Counter Gallery, it quickly gained recognition for its critically and curatorially driven program. In 2019, the gallery relocated to a 10,000-square-foot space within the former Thanet Press building in Margate, Kent, allowing for more expansive solo and curated exhibitions.
The gallery champions emerging British and international artists, often providing their inaugural commercial solo presentations. Its roster includes artists such as Billy Childish, Lindsey Mendick, Nel Aerts, and Benjamin Senior, among others. Carl Freedman Gallery is also home to Counter Editions, a fine art print publishing business. With a commitment to fostering a deeper appreciation for contemporary art, the gallery consistently presents thought-provoking and visually compelling works, enriching Margate's cultural landscape.
