About the Artist
John Bock is a seminal German artist whose practice is characterized by elaborate, often visceral, performance-lectures and theatrical installations. Drawing on traditions of Dada, Fluxus, and Happenings, Bock constructs temporary, ramshackle environments from everyday detritus and bizarre contraptions, within which he performs his idiosyncratic "lectures." These performances combine pseudo-academic discourse with nonsensical language, grotesque costumes, and surreal actions, inviting audience participation while simultaneously frustrating clear comprehension. Bock’s work delights in pushing boundaries, exploring themes of communication, transformation, and the absurd, creating an immersive, multi-sensory experience that challenges conventional artistic and rational frameworks.
