About the Gallery
Founded in 1963 by Michael Werner as Werner & Katz in Berlin, the gallery became Galerie Michael Werner in 1969 and quickly became a major force in the art world. It has represented some of the most important artists of the 20th century, including Georg Baselitz, Marcel Broodthaers, and Sigmar Polke, while also specializing in modern masters like Hans Arp and Kurt Schwitters. The gallery expanded internationally with its New York location in 1990, followed by a London space in 2012. In 2024, Michael Werner Gallery opened new locations in Beverly Hills and Athens, continuing to showcase contemporary and modern European and American art.
